SUNY - ALBANY RE-INSTATES NAPSTER

3/1/00 - The State University of New York shut down Napster because it was taking over 30% of the school's bandwidth. It has since (as of 2/25 after about 2 weeks) been re-instated with a bandwidth cap of 5mbs. SAUC would like to congratulate the students at SUNY at Albany for their victory. This is a move much like USC projected earlier last month. Hopefully more universities will follow suit and start holding individual students responsible for the bandwidth issue rather than chastising the rest of the students who use Napster, and other media sharing programs responsibly. SAUC is unofficially starting to see more and more "victories" like the USC victory and this one. Various network administrators from universities across the nation have contacted us stating that they shouldn't be on the university list (which has grown to over one hundred universities) because they have "taken care of the issue without any further blocks". We looking into this issue and we will hopefully report back with good news. Petition Count: 6,828.
